Research: Kyle Martin '12

Kyle Martin '12“Working in Professor Ting’s lab was a truly great experience that I will never forget. Not only did I have the opportunity to work and engage with other classmates who shared and spurred my enthusiasm, but the time I spent in the lab gave me the confidence I needed to be able to research, design, and perform my own scientific experiments.  I strongly believe that working in her lab helped me get more out of my later science courses because of the experience I had reading science articles, practicing my lab techniques, and analyzing the information I gathered.  Our summer work culminated in a research trip on a 5 day voyage in the Sargasso Sea where we collected water samples from various depths to study what organisms inhabited the areas.  While on the trip, my labmates and I met other science professors and grad students from all over the world who were also performing their research and it was inspiring for me to conduct research along with them despite being an undergraduate student.  Even though I might not do science research after Williams, I definitely can say that the skills and people I met that summer will always help me with any field in which I want to work.”
